Mother calls for Stricter DUI Laws for Repeat Offenders

DUI accidents - DUI LawsAccording to statistics, nearly 1 in 3 people will be involved in DUI accidents in their lifetime. There are many organizations like ‘Mothers against Drunk Driving’ that have stated that it helps a survivor or a victim every 10 minutes! Let’s take a look at some of the repeat offenders and why they are allowed to continue driving.

Nearly 75% percent of drunk drivers continue to keep driving even though they have a suspended license. The former Shelby County District Attorney General has formed a special unit that specifically deals with DUI offenders. But one mother claims that these offenders still get behind the while and pose as a danger to other lives.

The damaged caused by a DUI crash can be extremely devastating, not just for the vehicles involved but for the victims and their families as well. Sandra Weeden’s 19 year old son was killed in an accident when a drunk driver hit him back in 2007. What made it worse was that the driver’s DUI arrest was not his first. It was his third offense!

Today, there are nearly 59,000 third time DUI offenders in Tennessee.
