Khp Conducts Safety Program for Trucks

The Trucks Patrol Safety program conducted by Kansas Patrol and supported by Federal Motor Carrier Safety is in the midst of third consecutive year. This program has been supported by state since July. This program combines companies and drivers which operate large trucks with the Patrol with an effort to reduce injuries and death which are related to truck crashes.

The TOPS Program provides one an opportunity to ride with professional semi truck drivers. The onboard large trucks will have a support to view front seat, document and violate the troopers on the patrol in immediate area. Each week the violation data for the city is being calculated and posted on Kansas Patrol’s web site. Using this program the state laws and federal regulations are being enforced for large trucks.

All the trucks, trailers and drivers which use Patrol are donated by industry. The companies for the same partner with a specific region of the state market the resources available to them. In south central region the partnering company was two Kansas Motor Carriers Association companies who gave a driver and trailer for Patrol’s usage.

According to Kansas State Department there were around 3,702 crashes in 2008 which involved heavy trucks, equating to one crash in every 2.37 hours. In those 3000 crashes, 63 people were killed and another 1146 workers injured. This demonstrates the need for safe operation of vehicles all round the trucks promoting safe awareness among them.
