Citizens Traffic Commission sets up a Program to Stop Distracted Driving
In Lower Makefield Township, the Citizens Traffic Commission has set up a program on Interactive Safe Driving at the William Penn Middle School, 1524 Derbyshire Road, Yardley, PA from 10 am to 12.30 pm on the 23rd of October.

The main focus of this program would be on the dangers related to distracted driving and driving while impaired. Special emphasis would be on teen driving. Knowledgeable and interesting speakers have been invited to speak for this program.

The session will begin with Jeff Sawyer who is the first speaker. He is a Lower Makefield resident and a State Farm Insurance agent. Jeff Sawyer has spoken to various school groups on the hazards of drunk driving and other dangerous driving practices.

This would be followed by a healthy discussion with William Hogan who has been appointed as the second speaker. He is the president of the Advantage Driving Academy and also a resident of Lower Makefield. William Hogan hopes to enlighten parents with different ways in which they can encourage their teens to drive safely, along with the use of parent-teen driving contracts.

The Interactive Safe Driving Program will end with the third speaker, Officer Mike Pell of the Lower Makefield Police Department. With him, the teens would get a chance to take part in interactive activities. This would include the Safety Simulator that is provided by the Pennsylvania DUI Association and the State Farm insurance Companies. This will help give them a realistic, hands on driving experience with the real dashboard, the wheel and the seat.

The chairperson of the Citizens Traffic Commission, Ginni Torbert hopes to promote safe driving in the township through this program.
