Go back to Driving School and Learn about Roundabouts

Sioux Falls is now building its second roundabout on 69th Street and Southeastern Avenue. This circular intersection is a relatively new concept for most of the traffic engineers in town. The recent success of the first roundabout has led to plans of building a second one. The first roundabout on Career Avenue has the University Center surrounding it and was a fairly new concept for the city. But it has also taken off fairly well. And this is why city engineers have decided that it is time for another one. This move has led to a fairly favorable response from the city resident and the next roundabout to come up will be in a more residential setting. However, intersection safety is a very important topic to cover. The safety council in the city will talk about intersection safety and roundabouts in its defensive driving classes. A roundabout is nothing more than just a circular intersection but it is important to pay careful attention to the road signs and pavement markings. This way, v...

On Monday, January 24, the Minnesota State Troopers in the west central and northern regions once again started the week with poor visibility and icy roads. Reports have shown that those motorists who have been driving too fast in spite of the poor conditions have led to more than their fair share of accidents. 52 vehicles have slid off the road according to reports sent by the State Patrol. What’s more, troopers have also reportedly responded to an additional 21 crashes out which 14 were rollovers and 3 involved serious injuries. South African roads have become increasingly hazardous, what with the numbers of road deaths and mishaps increasing rapidly. Drivers are being urged to exercise more caution and to use the roads responsibly. Records have shown that from the start of December, the fatalities numbered at nearly 860 as compared to last year’s 717. According to the Ministry of Transport, this death toll has risen because of drivers who do not behave responsibly. Several drivers were found to be driving at alarmingly high speeds, ignoring the fact that in case of an accident, they would be responsible for multiple deaths. Many accidents take place because drivers disobey the traffic rules. Drivers are being appealed to exercise patience and abide by the rules. Mr. Collins Letsoalo, the CEO of the Road Traffic Management Corporation, has stated that defensive driving is really about being ready for anything on the roads. Expecting the unexpected and always being ready for other’s mistakes can save your lives...

Defensive Driving Classes - Driver's Attitude Play's a Key Role in Fatal Accidents

We have all learned about the various factors that play a large role in fatal accidents, such as: 1.Terrain/climate/weather or any natural occurring factor; 2.Road condition/design, 3.Driver's attitude and 4.Vehicle road worthiness. However, a recent study was conducted to determine how far a person can control his destiny, during these unfortunate incidents. Firstly, the study showed that nature does change at unpredictable frequencies, hence 'nature' functions as a non-variable (not individual controllable). Next, they went on to deal with the second contributing aspect that is the road conditions. Overall, the road is an infrastructure that's laid by a governing body. Thus, keeping in mind the possibilities of 'political and economic adversaries', a road too, is deemed as a non-variable. But the study did show that an average motorist can control the third aspect to a certain extent, depending upon his financial capability, knowledge and concern for road wort...

Facts and Myths about Senior Drivers

For senior drivers, driving becomes more and more difficult with cars becoming more complicated, roads becoming heavier and traffic rules changing all the time. However, the biggest problem they face is their bodily function which starts to reduce due to their advancing age. To be a safe driver, you need specific physical abilities like sound hearing and vision, quick reaction time and strong memory which decline as we grow old but the rate of decline may differ from person to person. According to statistics, senior drivers are prone to receiving traffic citations for going through red lights, failing to yield to traffic signs or turning improperly. The accident rate is also more in this age group and they are most likely to get seriously hurt or succumb to the injury. However, if an adult driver has a healthy and safe driving habit from early on, they will mature into a careful senior driver. Habits are hard to die, so make sure you follow a safe driving habit. It is also a good idea ...
