NSJP calls for Good Driving Etiquette this Christmas
With the recession just about over, it would do you some good to give away gifts that cost hardly anything, but benefit everyone. Improve your defensive driving skills! The New Jersey State Police has begun offering simple tips and suggestion to motorists this season with the hopes of enjoying an accident-free holiday season this year.

Personal safety, safety of friends and other loved ones should be more important than any kind of urgency that may crop up while on the road. When we get behind the wheel, there are so many factors that demand our attention that it can be very risky. But none of these factors are worth risking our lives for. Answering phone calls and texting while driving can wait, adjusting the radio can be done off the road, checking your child’s attitude can be done at home. When you are behind the wheel, just drive and do not concentrate on anything else.

Distracted driving accounts for most of the major motor vehicle crashes in the United States, and the number of distractions always doubles at this time of the year. Along with that, there is an increased volume of holiday traffic and many people tend to drink and drive. With the weather being as risky as it is, tire traction reduces, increasing the likelihood of deadly holiday crashes.

However this holiday season, there will be more than a 100 additional state troopers monitoring the roads. These troopers will look for specific violations like aggressive driving, driving under the influence, and using mobile devices while driving.
