Nursing Student provides safe rides for potential drunk drivers

In spite of her busy schedule as a vocational nursing student at the Angelina College, Jessica Johnson has volunteered to become a designated driver, available to anyone, at anytime. This comes after the death of her best friend, Zayne Anthony, in a freak drunk driving accident in February. Jessica has volunteered to start a designated driving program for all Lufkin residents who need a ride home after having a couple of drinks. Jessica knows at least 5 people who have died due to drunk driving. In an effort to promote her campaign, Jessica has even bought herself a cell phone and has started distributing fliers about her “Last Call” program, where anyone who has had too much to drink can call her and get a free ride home. If more people could be as responsible as Jessica, the roads would be a safer place to drive in. Fortunately, there are plenty of defensive driving campaigns that teach drivers how to drive responsibly.

FBI Agent Identified in Fatal Drunk Driving Accident

Recently, law enforcement officials have positively identified Adrian Norbell Johnson, the 37 year old FBI agent involved in the fatal car crash that took place in Brandywine, MD on Monday night. The FBI has released a statement saying that the agent has been working with the bureau for six years now. Also, his latest assignment for the FBI was to visit the FBI field office in Newark, New Jersey. Apparently, the agent had also recently moved to Washington D.C. to work on U.S. Attorney General’s security details – a task he was yet to get started with. The FBI has also said that the agent was not on duty and was driving his personal car when the crash took place. What’s more, Johnson’s blood alcohol level was found to be .25, which is 3 times the legal limit. This was a very high level of intoxication. People with .20 levels of alcohol generally show signs of impaired speech, lose the ability to walk and stand, and there is certainly some amount of impaired judgment. Such recklessness c...

Road Accidents and Fatalities causing Concern

South African roads have become increasingly hazardous, what with the numbers of road deaths and mishaps increasing rapidly. Drivers are being urged to exercise more caution and to use the roads responsibly. Records have shown that from the start of December, the fatalities numbered at nearly 860 as compared to last year’s 717. According to the Ministry of Transport, this death toll has risen because of drivers who do not behave responsibly. Several drivers were found to be driving at alarmingly high speeds, ignoring the fact that in case of an accident, they would be responsible for multiple deaths. Many accidents take place because drivers disobey the traffic rules. Drivers are being appealed to exercise patience and abide by the rules. Mr. Collins Letsoalo, the CEO of the Road Traffic Management Corporation, has stated that defensive driving is really about being ready for anything on the roads. Expecting the unexpected and always being ready for other’s mistakes can save your lives...

Missouri Remembers Victims of Drunk Driving Accidents

Advocates on road safety gathered at the Capitol on Thursday to focus on drunk driving accidents. The highway fatalities have certainly dropped in Missouri since last year. But the numbers of accidents caused due to alcohol constitute nearly 32 per cent of the total 281 victims. Leanna Depue, the Director of the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety, said “Missouri Remembers is not only a way to honor those people, but also reminds others of the importance of driving sober during this holiday season and every day of the year”. A special tree with “Missouri Remembers” ornaments was put up in the capitol rotunda by the safe roads coalition. The ornaments were put for anyone who wanted them. The testimonials are to remind the people of all the losses. Phaedra Marriot-Olsen, a victim of a drunk driving accident, said, “Besides the numerous many physical injuries that I had, the emotional nightmares were the ones that were hard to forget”. The Highway Patrol Col., Ron Replogl...
