The Ford Motor Co. has recently released a statement that will be investing an extra $1 million into its driving skills program for teen drivers. Statistics have shown that more than 3,000 American teens between the ages of 15 and 19 are killed in driving accidents and crashes every year. The Ford safety driving program, also known as ‘The Ford Driving Skills for Life’ campaign is all set to visit 30 high schools across the country in an attempt to educate teen drivers. This program will focus on a few key areas, such as: driver distraction, vehicle handling, speed space management and hazard recognition. These 4 areas account for more than 60% of the overall crashes that involve teen drivers. Inexperience is one of the main causes of accidents and crashes amongst the teen driving population, and this program will provide these drivers with the right skills, knowledge and confidence to improve their safety when on the road. The California Highway Patrol's Start Smart Program is aimed towards teens aged between fifteen to nineteen, their parents and guardians. The California Highway Patrol officers will be discussing the avoidance techniques of vehicle collision, responsibilities of the driver and the parent, importance of seatbelt usage, etc. Officers who have investigated into deadly collisions involving teens will provide testimonies.
