Teen Drivers say it’s ok to Speed

At least 2 out of every 5 drivers say that it is ok to break the speed limit of 30mph by about 10 mph more. Nearly 25% of these drivers are between the ages of 16 and 21. These same drivers also feel that there is nothing wrong with drinking about one and a half pints of beer or alcohol before getting behind the wheel. These survey results were a part of a campaign launched by the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety. A poll was taken for 500 people aged between 16 to 21 and showed that at least 9% of males in this age bracket thought it was ok to drink more than one and a half pints of beer or alcohol before driving. Also, nearly 60% of drivers though that young drivers tend to behave more dangerously when carrying other young passengers. The 3 organizations that are launching this campaign are urging for a restriction as far as the time of the day that young drivers should drive in order to prevent late night accidents. Crash Kills 2; raising concerns about Joyriding

In Debary, Fla., a vehicle crash claimed 2 teens’ lives and has left 3 others seriously injured recently. This particular case has not only left the parents of all involved concerned, but has all been noticed by the law enforcement officials. Recently, an SUV rolled over and caught fire on the Fort Florida Road. The driver was 18 year old Joshua Ritter who survived along with 17 year old Ryan Jenkins and 18 year old Kenyanna Hawkins. However, 2 youngsters did not survive in the whole mess. Ben Johnson, the Volusia County Sherriff, claims that he feels that horseplay was involved. The reasons behind the crash have been put down to aggressive driving. Witnesses have claimed that at least 2 of the kids were found to be riding on the exterior of the vehicle while one more was possibly running board and another on the back of the bumper. For many years now, the government has been emphasizing the importance of taking defensive driving courses, especially for P-platers. Denis Gregory, the president of the Gnoo Blas Classic Car Club has commented after the government made clear about its concern over the financial problems faced by teenagers without a car or in disadvantaged circumstances, as they attempt to complete the required 120 hours of driving. Many people have also opposed plans to reduce theses driving hours, as they claim that it will definitely result in more road accidents.
